First off, I want to say congratulations to the ARC giveaway winners, Kate Ivan and Emily Ables! Thanks, too, to everyone who entered. There will be other opportunities to win PRETTY SLY ARCs between now and March, so stay tuned.
Second: Today is a big day, guys. I just turned in the third draft of book three to my wonderful editors Melissa and Claudia.
Does this mean it’s totally completely and forevermore finished? Not sure yet, but it feels like a major milestone, because Willa’s journey is coming to a close. I have to say that I am super-proud of books two and three in this series—a lot of writers talk about the challenge of seeing characters and an ever-twisting storyline through sequels, maintaining drive and continuity while creating fresh new narratives. It’s true that these two books were harder in some ways than Pretty Crooked. But for me the experience was also much more satisfying as I went deeper into these characters and their relationships.
And, I don’t know if this is so PC to admit? I kind of like the sequels better than the first book. I don’t know if it’s a Godfather situation or anything… I guess readers will be the judge of that. Anyway, I will be sad to see Willa and her sticky fingers go (at least until she comes back in page proof form).
